PROFESSIONAL ROOF LINING
&
FELT IN BRISTOL
Roof lining is one of the most critical and most overlooked components of a well-functioning domestic roof. Without proper underlay, even a well-tiled roof allows wind-driven rain, dust and cold air into the loft space, leading to damp, mould and deteriorating insulation.
Gibbs Roofing installs high-quality breathable roofing membranes and traditional bitumen felt underlays on all re-roofing projects and felt replacement jobs across Bristol and the surrounding area. Modern breathable membranes such as LR135 and equivalent products allow moisture vapour to escape from the loft while blocking liquid rainwater from above. This is essential for properties with modern insulation at rafter level and helps prevent the buildup of condensation in the loft space.
Based in Clifton and covering Bedminster, Redland, Horfield, Keynsham, Kingswood and all Bristol postcodes within a 30-mile radius Gibbs Roofing installs roof lining to the highest standard on every job.

ROOF LINING & FELT QUESTIONS
Common questions about roof felt and membrane in Bristol.
CALL GIBBS ROOFING

Do I need breathable membrane or traditional felt?
For the majority of Bristol properties especially those with insulation at rafter level breathable membrane is strongly recommended. It allows moisture vapour to escape while blocking rainwater. We use breathable membrane as standard on all new re-roofing projects and will advise on the best option for your specific roof during the free survey.
How do I know if my roof felt has failed?
Signs of failed roof felt include damp patches or mould in the loft, dust and debris falling through the lining from above, or visible daylight between tiles when viewed from the loft. Older bitumen felt typically begins to fail after 15–20 years, becoming brittle and splitting. A roof survey will confirm the condition.
Can you replace just the felt without a full re-roof?
Replacing the underlay requires removing the tiles or slates to access the felt beneath, which in practice means a partial or full strip-off. In most cases, if the felt has failed, it makes sense to carry out a full re-roof at the same time — replacing all the tiles, battens and underlay together for the best long-term result. We’ll always give you honest advice on the most cost-effective approach.
